Free hearing screenings for newborn babies

First Sound hearing tests are done at hospitals across South Carolina, shortly after infants are born. The test is quick and painless. It works by playing a series of sounds through small earphones that are placed on babies while they are quiet or asleep.

The timing of this screening is important. When hearing loss is found early, doctors can guide families on how they can help children when language skills are developing.
